Jase Allen: A birth story, part 2

If you missed part 1 of Jase’s birth story, click here. I delivered at Madison Hospital, which is a relatively new, smaller hospital in our area.  They were super laid back, but completely experienced.  While other hospitals are very strict about procedures and the amount of visitors, Madison allowed me to set my own guidelines.  The nurse told me I could have as many visitors as I wanted, and if.. Disney On Ice, 2014

Our school took its second-annual, school-wide, Disney on Ice field trip last Friday.  It is such a fun trip and I love that we load all 600 students and faculty up to go.  (How about that big belly crammed into that little tshirt in the above photo? Ha!) The girls would enjoy just riding the bus.  I think that is one of their favorite parts of any field trip they.. Read More

A First Grade Program

Last week, Libby participated in her first grade program at school.  She memorized her part so well and even got to dress as an Indian. (Native American for you politically correct folks.) All of first grade lined up on the makeshift stage and told the story of the first Thanksgiving.  There were students dressed as food:  cranberry sauce,  a turkey, dressing, potatoes.  There were students dressed as Pilgrims.  Some were.. The Weekend Lens

We had a friend-filled weekend, and this mama has been looking forward to Monday to catch up on my rest 🙂 On Friday night, Justin took Kyndall hunting with a friend and his daughter.  They spent the night a few hours away from home.  Lots of fun, but no luck with the hunting. With them gone, Libby invited Maggie to spend the night.  GraGra and Pops took the girls to.. Read More

Week In The Life: Friday Words + Photos

6:15 am- When I woke Libby up this morning, from my bed, the first words she said were “I slept AWESOME!” 7:15 am- It’s Halloween, so both girls got to wear their costumes to school.  They had cookies and candy and games and TONS of fun. 3:30 pm- Super quick, fifteen minute rest time for the pregnant mama who had too little sleep last night and too many sweets today… Read More

Just A Few Things for Monday

1.  From soccer to basketball.  Kyndall played her first game this weekend, during a preseason tournament.  She had SO much fun and did SO good.  She scored 2 points and had several steals.  I mean, how tough does she look in that picture? 2.  Libby had the stomach virus over the weekend, so she didn’t cheer at her game on Saturday.  She did feel well enough to come cheer Kyndall on.. Parents, Grandparents, and Pumpkins… Oh My!

October, November, and December are some of my most favorite months of the year.  It seems like that are stock-full of all kinds of fun things to do. On Monday night, I made my World’s Best Chili (stay tuned later in the week for that recipe) and both sets of grandparents (and Aunt Mal) came to eat and help us carve pumpkins. Pops and Daddy cut the tops off and.. Read More

Field Trip!!! (And pumpkin patch visit #2)

Just so you know, if there is a pumpkin patch anywhere near us, you can trust that the West family has been there.  Between personal visits and field trips, we are experts on pumpkin patches in the south. Last week, Libby’s class ventured out to 4-D Family Farms in Hanceville, Alabama.  (It’s kind of a tradition around these parts to go to a farm/pumpkin patch in the fall.  Kyndall’s class.. Making Art

This. This is what being a mom to two girls looks like right now.  There aren’t army men or nerf bullets (usually), although I’m sure that will come when Baby Jase gets here.  Right now, there’s just art. Drawings. Stories. Paper bag puppets. And art. Everywhere.  And lots of it. Each time I find myself getting frustrated at the piles (and piles, and piles, and piles) of paper and.. Read More

Photo-shoot in the Cotton

The cotton is blooming at my parents house so I took the girls out for a photo-shoot after church on Sunday.  They usually gripe and moan when I take pictures, but they seemed to enjoy this as much as I did. Libby is fake smiling right now and I happen to love it.  It’s a phase all kids go through when learning how to work their “real” smile, and it’s.. Read More
