That Time I Met Jen Hatmaker

Last weekend, Lisa and I drove down to Birmingham to a women’s conference at Shades Mountain Baptist Church.  The theme was For Such A Time As This and the speaker was my favorite, Jen Hatmaker.  (Jen is the author of Seven, Interrupted, and the eagerly anticipated For the Love.) PS:  I took Jase, since he is still dependent on mom for food and everything, and he was a trooper.  He.. Read More

AWANA Grand Prix

Each year during AWANA, our church has a Grand Prix car race.  Each child takes home a car to design and decorate.  The cars have to be sanded…. And then painted. And decorated to their hearts content.  This year, Kyndall wanted an Olaf car and Libby wanted a princess car.  They were both very specific about how their cars were to look. Libby even won 2nd place for her car.. Read More

Finding My Mission Field

Fourteen years ago I stood on the stage at my church and shared my call to be a missionary.  I was sixteen years old and had just come back from a very emotional church camp experience.  I was on the mountaintop after being immersed in a solid week of missions, worship, bible study, and Christian fellowship. Mission work seemed so glamorous then.  I imagined myself flying back and forth from.. Read More

15+ Ways to Show Love to Others

Years ago, I took the Five Love Languages quiz.  Not surprisingly, my #1 love language was Acts of Service, followed closely by Words of Affirmation.  While these are the ways that I best feel loved, I think they are also the ways that I show love. Need me to help keep your kids?  Gladly!  Need help setting up for an event you are hosting?  Sure!  Need me to drive you.. Read More

Kyndall’s Faith Story

For a few months now, Kyndall has been asking questions about salvation.  Little things.  Tiny questions.  Justin and I have been very careful to only answer the questions she asks.  We did not want to volunteer any information or persuade her in any way.  Salvation at such an early age is a tenuous thread. Last Sunday after church, as I was tucking her into bed, Kyndall asked me (again) what.. Read More

It’s A Good Morning

This morning was rough.  My first-born child, the one who exists in her own world, who never cares about the opinions of others, who dances to the beat of her own drum and accepts anyone who wishes to dance with her… this child of mine was in a mood.  I’m not sure what started it, but it ended with the two of us sitting on the floor—tears streaming down her.. Gentlemen….Start Your Engines! (Sort of…)

Our annual AWANA Grand Prix was last week.  All the kids create their own wooden stock cars and race them down the track.  There are winners in each age group and everyone has so much fun.  We have an official announcer, “pit crews” and everything!  The Grand Prix is double elimination, so each racer gets to run twice.  The girls had to race against each other.  The announcer asked them.. A political rant from the not-so-political media specialist

Please pause while I step up to the podium. I don’t usually get into politics much.  As a matter of fact, the presidential race is the only thing “political” I ever pay attention too.  I actually even watched the presidential debate this year, for the first time ever.  It feels wonderful to be informed, but also a little bit scary.  I think I like my land of denial better.  I.. Awana Kick-Off

Tonight was the AWANA kick-off at church.  The girls were so excited– they both had their shirts, books, bags, and Bibles;  and they were ready to go! At the kick-off, the girls ate pizza, played games, and met their Awana teacher.  They played introduction games with their classmates, just in case they didn’t know everyone. And the Awana leader told them all about how they would have “homework” each week and.. And your chariot awaits…

I’ve been back to school 3 whole days and look what happens to my blog–it goes downhill.  It’s embarassing, I tell ya!  Somehow, my brain can’t wrap around work, and soccer, and shirt-making, and blogging all at the same time–it wants to just shut down and get on Pinterest!  On Sunday, we celebrated the final night of the Girls of Grace class at church.  We surprised the girls and rented a..
