Field Trip!!! (And pumpkin patch visit #2)

Just so you know, if there is a pumpkin patch anywhere near us, you can trust that the West family has been there.  Between personal visits and field trips, we are experts on pumpkin patches in the south. Last week, Libby’s class ventured out to 4-D Family Farms in Hanceville, Alabama.  (It’s kind of a tradition around these parts to go to a farm/pumpkin patch in the fall.  Kyndall’s class.. Madam Vice President

As I mentioned in this post, Kyndall ran for Vice President of our school’s Student Council last week.  There were 12 students running for this position, and Kyndall had to give a speech in front of around three hundred people.  (Deep down inside, I wanted to talk her out of it.  I didn’t even try, but I sooo wanted to.  How scary!  She’s only 8!)  She did AWESOME.  They all.. SCHOOL is BACK!

In between soccer and cheerleading, school has started back.  As usual, our school had Open House night, where kids and parents both come to meet the teacher.  The girls love it, mostly because they get to see the friends they haven’t seen all summer.  (They love their teachers too, but they already know them, being TK’s and all.  That’s teacher’s kids, for those of you who don’t know.) Libby has.. Read More

Field Day Fun

Last week, our school had Field Day.  It’s a school wide, outdoor celebration where the kids do different games.  It’s not super competitive– no awards are given or anything (boo-boo!), but the kids have a TON of fun. This year, we had “Opening Ceremonies” and Kyndall got to take part.  There was a torch run and everything! Each grades had a color they were supposed to wear–Kyndall was blue and.. Read More

Bowling, Field Trips, and Chaos

Remember this post, when I said I really liked clean sinks?  And how I felt like I really had it all together when my sinks were clean and shiny?  Well today, my sinks look like this: Obviously, my life is in chaos.  I need prayers, ya’ll.  If I can’t keep my sinks clean, what chance do I have of keeping control over ANYTHING in my life? In other news, Kyndall’s.. Read More

Throwback Thursday, Baby Girl Style

It seems like only yesterday that I was writing this post about my baby girl starting Kindergarten.  Tuesday night, she had her end-of-Kindergarten program.  Please excuse me while I go sob in the corner….. First day: And now: Instead of a graduation program, the students all sang songs to go along with each month of the year. They sang one “month” song and then performed a song or poem about.. Fun at The Gardens

Yesterday, Kyndall’s class went on a field trip to the Botanical Gardens to check out the Butterfly Exhibit.  The day was a gorgeously sunny 80 degrees–perfect for an outdoor excursion. Kyndall and her ‘besties’ in the Butterfly Garden.  They were on a Scavenger Hunt to find various things around the Garden—a male monarch butterfly, a box turtle, a chrysalis, a quail. A red-eared turtle.  (Have you ever heard of a.. Read More

2014 Quarterly Book Rewind: Those I’ve Loved, Hated, and Been Indifferent To

I’ve been a reading fiend these first few months of 2014.  What follows is a list of titles I’ve finished from January through March, with a sprinkling of book reviews along the way. After the Storm by Maya Banks That Time I Joined the Circus by J. Howard.  This is another one of my YA adult reads ( I think it’s 5th grade level?) but it was very entertaining. I.. Read More

A Visit with author Michael Finklea

Michael Finklea, author of Who Are You Calling Junior and Creepers, made a visit to our school during Read Across America Week.  He read one of his books and spoke to the children about writing.  After his presentation, he sold autographed copies to the kids.  Kyndall chose the book Creepers.  Libby chose Who Are You Calling Junior, a book about a sugar glider, and now both girls want a sugar glider..
