Snow Skiing Adventure

We had an amazing week on the slopes.  I’ve found a new favorite activity in snow skiing, and so have the girls πŸ™‚

We left on the 26th and spent 5 nights at Beech Mountain, North Carolina.  I know it’s not Colorado, but for this southern girl, it was AWESOME!  The trip there took about 8 hours, but thanks to Santa’s gifts of Ipad minis, the girls stayed very well occupied.

The cabin we rented was less than a mile from the slopes.  It was called the Hundred Mile View–the first thing we did was walk out on the back deck for some photos:
I mean, seriously, how gorgeous is that view?  We spent the entire first night relaxing in front of the fire.  We played a game of Spoons and then Gra-Gra taught Kyndall how to play BlackJack πŸ™‚

The next day, our equipment rental and lift tickets were for the twilight session (1p-10p), so we started off the morning letting the girls do some sledding and playing in the snow before heading to the slopes.
When we got to the resort, we just practiced for a little while.  Justin and Mallory had been skiing before, but the rest of us were first-timers.  Justin and my dad took a few minutes working with the girls:

For the most part, everyone picked it up really quickly.  Some better than others, but no one got TOO frustrated.  Mama kept ending up in the snow bank and Trey had two speeds–wide open or crashed.  I was extremely impressed with the girls–they did REALLY well.  Libby couldn’t quite figure out how to stop, so she would just lay over.  Kyndall made like a pro and hit the 2nd level slopes a few times on this first day.
Shout out to Mica for letting me borrow her snow gear!
Personally, I wasn’t impressed with the nighttime skiing.  It got REALLY cold.  The snow turned more icy and it was nearly impossible to stop.  It was VERY pretty though.
On day two, we ventured over to HawksNest for snow tubing.  It was LOTS of fun, but really crowded.  The session was an hour and 45 minutes, and we spent a large part of that waiting in line.  I think everyone decided skiing was more fun πŸ™‚
Day three just happened to be Justin’s 35th birthday.  We woke up to rain, rain, and more rain.  We drove over to a nearby town for ice cream at McDonalds just to get out of the cabin for a little bit.  We did a small amount of shopping and ended the night with dinner at the Brick Oven Pizzeria.
The last day we woke up early for an all day session–9am until 5pm.

Around 1ish, Libby started getting tired.  Snow skiing is hard work for a little girl.  She worked on building a snowman for a little while:
And then ended up going back to the cabin with GraGra and Pop for the rest of the day.  The rest of us got serious about our skiing at this point.  We would ride the lift up and ski straight back down to the lift again–nonstop.
Right before our lift tickets expired, Justin insisted that we all go to the top slope–the expert leveled, highest slope at Beech Mountain.  I didn’t think it was a good idea, but Kyndall wanted to go so I wasn’t backing out πŸ™‚  The lift went higher and higher and higher.  We were literally above everything else that we could see–other mountains, houses, even the clouds.  The view was breathtaking.
The trip down was also breathtaking, but in a different way.  Kyndall got really scared (it was really steep!) and to be honest, Mal and I were nervous too.  Justin tried to help Kyndall down but he struggled.  (If I’m being honest, and I guess I am, I was pretty mad at J for talking us into going to the 3rd slope.)  At one point, K fell and when J tried to help her, his ski went over her arm.  At this point, I was slightly down the hill from them.  K started crying and I tried to get to her–have you ever tried to walk up a steep hill in the snow?  It doesn’t work.  Even after I took my ski’s off, I could only go downhill.
To make a long story short, K was ok.  We made it down the mountain without injury and I got over being mad πŸ™‚  We even had time to jump on the lift for one last trip before our tickets expired.  Justin got some really awesome video of Kyndall skiing, but I’m having issues uploading them.  I put them on Instagram here though, so be sure to check it out!
I think we are now addicted to snow skiing.  We are already talking about when we might be able to go back.  It was so much fun!  I am so thankful to my parents for giving us the gift of an active vacation.  We made so many memories, and that’s better than any material gift!

The Story of Panama City Beach

I am currently jamming out to my new Spotify playlist– “Throwback Jams”.  It’s full of songs from my high school days, in celebration of my upcoming 10-year reunion.  Hot in Herre by Nelly, Get Low by Lil Jon, Put It On Me by Ja Rule….I mean, we had the best music ever!  =)

We have been at Panama City Beach for the last week with our toes in the water, getting sunburned and eating our weight in fresh seafood.  It was awesome!  SO awesome that I didn’t take one single picture with my camera.  Thank goodness for Iphones!!
Surfing, with lots of help from Mal and Trey.

Ready to ride go-carts!

Feeding the birds at Shell Island.

Ba-by shark, do-do-do-do-do…

Daddy’s girls on his birthday.

Something really extra-exciting happened on our trip:  The girls sand KAREOKE! I mean, this was on MY 30 before 30 list, but whatev’s.  Just kidding, they rocked “The Climb”.  Look out Miley Cyrus!

One exhausted chick.

On the night before we left, the fire alarm went off at 3am.  Scared the girls to death! We had to go downstairs for a few minutes–turns out it was really stormy and something had gone wrong with the electrical.  Lucky for us (not), the alarm kept going off for about an hour.  Kyndall decided that she NEVER wants to go back to that hotel again πŸ™‚

Joke of the week, brought to you by Kyndall:

Edited to add:  The joke is—> Q:  What does Bruce Lee like to drink?  A:  Wat-ER.

Atlanta Braves, Star Wars, and a Mini-Vacay

For the past two days, we have been on a mini-vacay to Atlanta, Georgia, with some of our very best friends.  Can I just say that I have no clue how people traveled before technology?  Between Ipods and DVD players, there was hardly a peep from all four kids on the entire 4 hour drive!

Of course, all the IPod playing, DVD watching, and car riding did make a certain someone a little tired…
Our purpose for the trip to Atlanta was to see a Braves game.  We had to see Chipper play one last time before he retired.  A few days before the trip, we found out that the game we were attending was a “Star Wars, Defeat Cancer” theme.  Any children wearing the theme would be allowed to parade around on the field before the game.  So naturally, we made shirts :).
The boys shirts said “Jedi” above their names and the girls shirts said “Princess” above their names, along with pictures of Princess Leia.

Here we are on the field, in the parade:

Check out those waves–I think they are pro’s!
We had a great trip–absolutely zero arguments with the kids, good behavior on the boys parts (and I mean the big boys–the daddies), and a TON of fun!  Great memories made.

Flea Market Finds……or lack of

Today we went to the Nashville Flea Market.  Thank goodness we went with great friends or the day would have been a bust! It was not what I expected at all.  I was hoping for a leisurely day looking through some junk.  That’s basically what I got, only the junk was EXPENSIVE!! I’m talking hundreds of dollars expensive.  Carrie found this really cute shutter that she considered refinishing… until we realized it was $599.  That’s five hundred and ninety-nine dollars.  I mean, come on!

Another thing I so did not expect was all the booths set up with grocery items–shampoo, conditioner, deoderant, snacks, bedroom items(if you know what I mean). Seriously?  At a flea market?  Couldn’t they just have stopped by the Dollar General for that stuff?

I did make it home with a neat wire basket that I’m going to put in my pantry.  I stumbled across an amazing deal on some yellow dishes, but thanks to a certain man who will remain nameless, I didn’t get them.  He will never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever live that down, by the way.  And he has a LOT of making up to do.  And that is all I’m going to say about that…..for now.

Kyndall and Libby both got pink sock monkeys that are really cute.  And then Kyndall picked up this vintage cigarette case:

The picture is horrible, but you get the idea.  It’s silver plated with dolphins etched on the front and the inside has two clips, which were intended to hold cigarettes obviously, but Kyndall thinks its perfect to hold money.  So, it’s her new wallet. πŸ™‚

The kids had a great time playing, watching movies in the truck, and posing with stuffed dogs….

Bottom line:  Unless you are going with great friends just for fun, or you have an entire day to kill with absolutely NOTHING better to do, or you want to drive 2 hours to pick up some bedroom items (kidding! I kid!)……….I don’t recommend the Nashville Flea Market.

Okaloosa Island… In pictures

To kick off our summer, we took a trip down to the beach with my mom and sister.  We left the boys at home, so we were a little worried about how all our stuff (beach chairs, toys, nets, etc.) was going to make it down to the beach, but we managed.  Okaloosa island is a small stretch of beach between Destin and Fort Walton and it was beautiful.  Libby improved her swimming drastically from last year (see video below) and Kyndall was so intrigued by catching fish in her net that she hardly even came up for air.  We also went out to Destin Commons one night and Libby played on the big bouncy slide while Kyndall climbed the rock wall.  So glad we got to spend this time together!

Fantastic Nashville Getaway

In addition toΒ my amazing spa day, the hubby surprised me with a surprise trip to Nashville this weekend.Β  We went with Mike and Carrie and it was both relaxing and entertaining.Β  We got to be husbands and wives for a while without having to be moms and dads, which all good parents need every now and then.Β  We left late Thursday night and spent all day Friday shopping at the outlets.Β  I made a new, exciting COACH purchase…..

You know you love it =)

….and we walked around downtown Nashville Friday night, listening to some awesome bands.Β  Fantastic!

Spring Break Away!

During Spring Break, we were able to venture down to the beach for a few days (8 days, total). We spent the first 5 days with the family and then they all headed back home and we met up with some of the girls that I work with and their kids. It was a super fun trip all around. K was ready to buy a beach house and live their forever. L wasn’t so crazy about the place. She seemed to really miss her daddy after he left–crying every night when she talked to him. She couldn’t wait to get back home–the whole drive home she kept asking how much farther, how much farther. When we finally got close, she grinned and yelled out “I’m coming daddy!!” She sure loves that man! πŸ™‚

Waiting on our dinner!

Typical.
