Blackberry Jelly…… Success!

We did it! With our 10 cups of blackberries picked yesterday, we made 4 whole jars of blackberry jelly!  (We’ll try not to eat it all in one morning!) It took us about 2 hours to make, and that includes picking the blackberries.  Main lesson learned:  We need LOTS more blackberries!! The secret was the fruit juicer my grandmother had purchased a few years ago.  Within 5 minutes, we had washed, drained,.. Read More

Summer Manifesto

Tonight, we checked one thing off our “Summer Manifesto” and are well on our way to checking off another one.  We rode all around the farm and picked blackberries.  Kyndall loved it.  Libby was too hot, and just wanted to ride the 4-wheeler! K with a hanful of blackberries that she picked all by herself! L with a handful of blackberries that her daddy and I picked! L took this.. Read More

Rodeo Street Dance

This is what we do for fun on the Thursday night before a big rodeo. The county blocks off the street and we have an old-fashioned ho-down. OK, it’s not quite as redneck as that. They do block off the street and one of the local bands played while everyone danced. There were some country line dances going on, as well as a little of the cha-cha slide. The girls.. Read More

Camping Out

Last night we took the girls camping out behind the house.  Remember that we live on about 400 acres of farm land, so when I say behind the house, take that loosely.  Justin worked most of the afternoon finding the perfect spot, bringing rocks from the creek to circle the fire, cutting wood for the fire, etc.  The result was a perfect camping spot overlooking our pond.  We grilled hot.. The Never-Ending Farm To-Do List

With summer in full swing, and me home to get things done around this place, I stopped to make a list of the major things I wanted to get accomplished.  Here they are, in no particular order: 1.  House.  In a perfect world, this would mean BUILD the house.  In my world, it just means finalizing the plans, talking to builders and bankers, etc.  All the things that have to.. Canine Introductions

We have quite a few animal friends on our farm, but our dogs are the most loveable.  Introducing, in no special order: Spot–the sweet, calm stray who wandered our way about a year ago and chose to stay for good. Oakley–our baby before we had babies.  He’s going on 8 years of age and is the only one lucky enough to get to come inside the house. Bailey–one of our.. Read More

There’s something about a creek

We all ventured down to our creek this evening for a little exploring. We ended up with some awesome snapshots. She was hoping to catch something really cool in her net! This enormous guy gave us a little scare…I’m sure we gave him one too.  He was resting so peacefully on the bottom of the creek until I almost stepped on him, thinking he was a rock!

Gullion Farms Field Trip

Even though we live on a farm, we took a little trip to another one with K’s class at school.  The field trip was to Gullion Farms and the kids were able to do all kinds of exciting things.  If you are ever in our neck of the woods, I especially recommend visiting this place. K loving on the bunnies         This goat loved the way K.. Read More
