Farmhouse Kitchen and Pantry Tour with Quality Bath

Friends, we are FINALLY moved into our forever farmhouse and it has taken us a solid week to get mostly situated. Justin and I are sleeping on an air mattress because we haven’t purchased a bedroom suite yet. Originally, we had zero cell phone service and zero internet in the new house. We bought this cell phone booster and bumped our cell phone signal from zero bars to four-and-five bars.  Our garage is still packed full of stuff that needs to be sorted and put away. But for the most part, we are in!  Hallelujah!

Today, I want to share one of my favorite spaces with you–our farmhouse kitchen and pantry.

Farmhouse Kitchen:

Those yellow stools look so gorgeous in photos, but in reality, they come off more mustard/gold in color.  I’m considering painting them a bright turquoise color.  That goes on the bottom of our to-do list though, so who knows when it will actually happen.  =)

The door to the right of the fridge leads to our mudroom.  It usually stays open, and so far, the majority of our guests come in that way.

Farmhouse Kitchen Tour

I am really loving my double-ovens.  I didn’t know how often I would use them, but I have cooked something in both of them for almost every meal so far.

When I first began dreaming of my farmhouse kitchen, I knew I wanted a big apron-front, white fireclay sink.  I searched everywhere.  When I found this one at Quality Bath, I knew I wanted it in my farmhouse kitchen.

It’s 36 inches wide and a single bowl.  I don’t wash many dishes by hand, but on the rare occasion that I do, the single bowl works fine.  It’s width allows me to wash on one side and rinse on the other.

I am extremely pleased with the quality and service from Quality Bath.  My sink was delivered within two weeks of ordering.  It is extremely heavy and very durable.  The fireclay feels like it would chip easily, but so far, it is holding up really well (even with three kids tossing in dishes every day!).

Farmhouse Pantry:

Farmhouse Kitchen Tour

In addition to the usual suspects (you know, food) our pantry hosts the microwave, toaster, and my Keurig coffee maker.  I love that these small appliances can stay out and easily accessible, but still hidden from view.

Farmhouse Kitchen Tour

I think I’ll put some decorative plates on those little shelves on the sides of the microwave.  Maybe some of my painted pottery pieces or something.  Right now, there is nothing in the cabinets below or above the microwave, but I’m sure I’ll find something to go there eventually!

Farmhouse Kitchen Tour

Justin and my dad built these shelves and I adore the way they turned out.  Those OXO containers (the three on the left) are my favorite.  They are a bit pricey, though, so I’m slowly adding to my collection.

We are relishing being in our new home and this space is definitely one of the most-used.  Having the tools and space needed to cook actually makes me enjoy cooking!

Forever Farmhouse Update No. 9

farmhouse updateYou guys, I apologize for the lack of posts. We are in a mad rush to get this house completed and it is taking up every free second that I have.  Next Wednesday or Thursday, we will have our final inspection. Then, on May 23 we are closing on this bad boy!! Praise JESUS, am I right? =)

Installing the garage doors was quite an event. If you’ll remember, we are currently living in what will be the future garage. On Tuesday, we cut out the holes where our garage doors would go. It went from this:

To this:

And finally, on Thursday, to this:

We spent Tuesday and Wednesday nights with a sheet of plastic separating us from the great outdoors. It was great! =)

Our cabinet guy built and installed the closet units for our master closets.  We have his and hers closets, which was one of my “must-haves”  WAY back at the beginning of this whole process.  I opted for shelving and drawers, so my closet looks like this:

Justin just wanted shelves, with no drawers.  His closet looks like this:

Today, Justin is working on leveling up the front yard and spreading out hay.  Since we are out in the county, we don’t have to do any “real” landscaping right away.  I hope to have our local nursery come out and give me suggestions as to what I should plant, and where.

This weekend we are hitting the ground running–finished up the last remaining tasks and hopefully, getting most everything cleaned up and ready to move in.  The concrete people are coming next week to pour our sidewalks and a slab for us to park on.  I am super excited about molding the kids’ handprints into the concrete–how funny is that?

Kyndall and I made a spontaneous stop by Southern Style Furniture earlier this week and found the perfect living room set, so that’s another item marked off my list!  I have fingers crossed that as soon as we close on the 23rd, we can start moving in and getting settled.  YAY!

Farmhouse Master Bathroom Update

Farmhouse Master Bathroom

This post in partnership with Floor & Decor.

You guys! Our plumber came yesterday and installed all of our toilets, hooked up all the faucets, and finished all the other plumbing things. We now have working bathrooms and running water and are even closer to being finished with our forever farmhouse! YAY!

Today, I am sharing our farmhouse master bathroom update with you. I was super excited to be able to partner with Floor & Decor on the tile for our floor and shower. If you are ever building and/or remodeling and need new flooring, check them out for sure!  I went for a store tour several months ago and was amazed at their selections.

Walk-In Shower:

Farmhouse Master Bathroom

Just so you know, all white tiles are not the same.  Floor & Decor’s subway tile is the brightest, cleanest white available on the market.  When I picked up subway tile samples from other stores, they were much more yellow/ivory in color.

Double Vanity:

Farmhouse Master Bathroom

One thing missing from this room still are mirrors.  I haven’t quite decided if I want to go with one big mirror all the way across the length of the vanity or two smaller mirrors with some decorative piece in the middle.  (Feel free to leave me your opinion in the comments!)  We have these lights to go above the sinks, but they haven’t been installed yet.

PS: If I were a professional blogger, I would have cleaned those floors before taking this picture.  {Hides face in embarrassment.}

Soaking Tub:

The only other item still needing to be completed is the tile around the tub.  We will use the same white subway tile to build a backsplash around our soaking tub to help protect the walls.

I can’t wait to be settled in and getting ready in this bathroom.  I dream of long soaks in that tub with candles and a book, but let’s be realistic–I have kids and that probably won’t happen for a while =)  Maybe I can at least squeeze in some steamy, relaxing showers of a morning though, which is the next best thing!

*This tile project and post in partnership with Floor & Decor.  The tile for this project was complimentary but all opinions are my own.

What I Read: April 2017

Can you even believe that April is almost over?  What is it with time, lately?  I feel like it is just flying by, now more than ever! Sheesh!  I read a grand total of TWO books this month.  In my defense, they were two very good books 🙂

What I Read April 2017

Notorious Nineteen by Janet Evanovich.  I have loved this series by Janet since the very beginning. It’s funny, with just a bit of mystery twisted in, and the perfect kind of light-reading I need at the end of a long day!  I read books 1-18 almost consecutively and then, for some reason, I fell off the wagon.  A co-worker reminded me about them recently and I picked up right where I left off, with plans to finish the rest of the series in May.  (So far, she has published 23 books and the 24th is coming out in the fall.)  The Stars:  5/5

Crimes Against A Book Club by Kathy Cooperman.  If you love chick-lit, this is the book for you.  I chose it from the Kindle First April selection and I am so glad I did.  Two friends who con a bunch of rich women out of money, selling a face cream with a top secret ingredient?  That’s good stuff 🙂 The Stars:  5/5

I feel like part of my problem with reading lately is that I can’t seem to get into a book.  I can’t find many that I actually want to read.  If you have any suggestions–something un-put-downable–I need them!

2017 Reading Recap:

Total number of books completed in April:  two
Total number of books abandoned in April:  zero
Number of fiction books completed in April: two
Number of nonfiction books completed in April: zero
Total number of books completed this year: fifteen

Life With: Brianna Hall Bigbee

Life With Brianna Hall Bigbee

Happy Monday, y’all!  Today I am thrilled to introduce you to my friend and cousin, Brianna Hall Bigbee.  Bri and I have been “modeling” together since we were in diapers–I could show you pictures but I’d hate to break the internet.  =)  Brianna is the creator and CEO of The Bleacher Babe brand–a blog, a shopping site, and a soon-to-be household name.  I am so proud of her and all her accomplishments!

Welcome, Brianna!

Life With Brianna Bigbee

Tell us a little about yourself.
Growing up in a rodeo family from Alabama, I have always admired the ladies and fashion of the West. I spent most of my weekends traveling with my Dad to ropings and rodeos. They say you end up marrying somone like your Dad and that statement couldn’t be truer for me. I grew up with my husband who, just like my father, is a professional rodeo athlete. We load up just about every weekend hitting the rodeo trail.

Cole has many accomplishments under his belt. He has won the Canadian Finals, was the top 10 Team Roper in the world, making it all the way under the bright lights in Vegas at the prestigious National Finals Rodeo.

Every time I would visit out West, I always came back with some pretty unique pieces. So many girls would ask me where I purchased them from. I also admired the Pro Rodeo wives fashion as well. Cowboys & Indians Magazine was my Cosmo growing up! I’ve always looked forward to the weekends where I could get all dolled up and strike out with Cole to the rodeos. I would sit with my “bleacher babes” and kill time discussing important fashion, makeup and hair tips. I tried my best to maintain my frizzy mane in our hot and humid Alabama weather, all while trying to capture the perfect video of Cole’s run!

Once I figured out different hair and makeup tricks that got the job done, I couldn’t wait to dish on the new products I found with other women who shared the same struggles.  It’s a tough job, but someone has to do it! I thought to myself, if only I could connect with more girls like myself. I ran across a few blogs on Instagram but noticed there wasn’t any that catered to my lifestyle. I thought it would be the perfect avenue to share with all of the rodeo ladies the resources I’ve come across from the western fashion industry & rodeo world while on the road. That was the start of, The Bleacher Babe. A social media page dedicated to the rodeo wives that sit in the bleachers every weekend devoted to their cowboys competing in the arena. I offered tips on how to doll yourself in unpredictable weather and how to get the looks for less.

Share your testimony.
What started out as an outlet a little over 2 years ago has now quickly turned into a home based business and allowed me to network and travel the United States. My love for fashion and search for affordable ways to keep up turned into an overnight hit and soon began my journey.

My husband, Cole Bigbee, made The RFDTV American Finals as a top 15 contender the year I began in 2015. It was my first time experiencing being with someone of his talent and exposure. I felt completely overwhelmed. I spent all of my time devoted to helping him get down the rodeo trail. Every weekend I was in the grandstands cheering him on as well as many other contestants’ significant others.

There is a glamorous side to dating a cowboy and also a downside. Rodeoing for a living comes with many perks and disadvantages. The perks are traveling to new places and events every weekend. Meeting new people that share the same interests. The thrill of watching your loved one conquer his dreams and battle it out in the arena. The downside is the expense and pressure that comes with needing to win so you can cover your fees and travel for the next rodeo. There also isn’t much time for date nights. I wanted to give rodeo wives an outlet. A reason to unite together and dress up at an affordable cost since living on the road can be expensive.

When we traveled to Dallas for the RFDTV American Rodeo the pressure as on. Not only for him but the pressure of presentation for me, being there with him. All of the ladies are dolled to the nines at these large events, adorned with very expensive custom jewelry and clothing. I knew that wasn’t an option for me, as for many, so I started a Facebook group called The Bleacher Babe’s Closet. A buy and sell group where women could make money and save money selling their gently used clothing.  The idea spread like wildfire.

Once it took off, so many doors have opened. I now produce annual “The Bleacher Babe” Fashion Shows at events such as RFDTV’s The American Rodeo for production alongside RFDTV. I’ve filmed fashion segments with Wrangler and BEX sunglasses while at the National Finals Rodeo in Vegas. I’ve participated in a TV Show, Chasing Down Madison Brown (Daughter of country singer Sawyer Brown).  I’ve had the honor of working with Magazines such as Western Horseman, Cowboys & Indians Magazine, Barrel Horse News.

This year I will be working alongside RFDTV covering events such as Round Top Antique week with the Junk Gypsy Company, the red carpet at The Kentucky Derby as well as more Fashion Shows and many other BIG projects in the works for 2017.

You are the owner of a very successful website, The Bleacher Babe. Tell us about how that idea began.
With the popularity of The Bleacher Babe’s Closet FB group birthed the idea of starting an online western fashion marketplace. A place where western inspired boutiques can sell online, similar to etsy and ebay. I am in hopes to finish this project by the end of 2017 along with a new app!

My website is under construction but feel free to check us out at www.shopbleacherbabe.com.

What advice would you give someone who has a vision/dream, but is scared to pursue it?
God is great and His timing is perfect. DO NOT BE AFRAID OF FAILURE! I have failed 10,000 times in my life but at least I know I have tried. God has a plan and it is precious.  If you want it, just GO FOR IT!!! Do not let people’s opinions be the one thing that is holding you back! You CAN accomplish anything you set your mind to! I truly believe that. Love yourself for who you are and don’t change that for anyone. Rock your weird sister! From a kid that struggled in school academically and socially due to swapping between two divorced parents 9 times, I can personally say don’t let people’s opinion of you define who you are. DON”T BE AFRAID TO TRY!

One of the hardships I’ve learned with wanting to be an entrepreneur is to always be prepared to fail. Nothing in success comes easy and if it were then we all would be successful. Never let failure knock you down, it only means you took a chance on something. Learn from your mistakes and improve.

Another thing I’ve learned throughout my journey is failure isn’t an option for me, and it shouldn’t be for you either. Put those big girl panties on and keep on trucking! There have been many times where I have been discouraged, but my daddy didn’t raise a quitter. I know God will always point me in the right direction and I have to most importantly put Him first and trust His guidance.

Faith and family are what will get you by.  Don’t forget to put them first while searching for success because they are the glue that will hold you together when this world tries to tear you apart. It’s not easy putting yourself out there and people can be negative and cruel, especially when you are shooting for the stars. Let them talk while you hustle to achieve your dreams. Take the high road and don’t focus on proving them wrong. Wish them well because deep down they wish they were as brave as you have been to go for it. Show them that they are just as capable as you are, if they work hard, and encourage them to be passionate about their own dreams. Be kind, be grateful and always remain humble.

What is something you are passionate about?
At 31 I can say I have been passionate about MANY THINGS! LOL! I have tried it all but that has always been my personality. I am a kite in the wind and have learned that it is totally okay! God made me curious and ambitious. I have a restless drive that keeps me fueled to experience life to the fullest. I wasn’t made to fit into a box (I get that from my daddy!).

I love to travel and experience different cultures! I’m interested in health and fitness and with age, it has become one of my top priorities. You only get one body and I’d like to take care of it mentally, physically and spiritually. I love helping others achieve their dreams or just encouraging people. I never really had many people lift me up so it’s extremely important to me to use my platform to inspire others. I love producing fashion shows for a cause.

Doing what I love has allowed me to give back to our community and our military by raising money with live auctions during our Fashion Shows. The most important of all that I’m passionate about is my marriage. I love fashion but it doesn’t define me, however, it has opened many doors and blessed me with a platform to make people feel good inside and out.

Life is so busy these days–how do you recharge?
Detaching is a BIG part of my routine. It is so easy to get caught up staring at my phone. My husband is just as busy as I am so it is important for us to turn our phones off and catch up. I love a good bubble bath, motivational book, going to dinner with my husband, hitting the gym or going on a hike with my dog. We also try to save and go on vacations. Mexico is a favorite of ours and pretty affordable for what you get at all in inclusive resorts.

Tell us three things you are loving (books, tv shows, products, etc.).

  1. I NEVER get caught up with Netflix but I have been hooked on the ‘13 Reasons Why‘ series.
  2. A few books that have always inspired me and I tend to pick back up are ‘Eat Pray Love‘ and ‘Girl Boss‘. I’m a big fan of Biographies/Memoirs and reading about people’s journey.
  3. ANYTHING with Jennifer Aniston. She inspires me so much with how she has handled aging gracefully, life in general and her timeless girl next door fashion.

Easter 2017: A Short and Sweet Recap

Easter 2017

Today’s post is short and sweet:  an Easter 2017 recap in 300 words or less.  (It was supposed to go up yesterday, but due to, um, “user error”, it’s posting today!)

Easter 2017

Easter 2017 was celebrated without fancy “frocks”.  In support of Forget The Frock, we purchased shirts that helped support the Schumer family adoption.  This photo was taken with a fancy set-up of a barstool and some books, so please forgive the awkward angle 🙂

Easter 2017

My mom hosted Easter at her house this year and we had quite the crew!  We made the kids take a picture before they could hunt eggs, which is the only way this miracle even happened!

The girls were too quick for me to get pictures, but I was able to snap this one of Jase snatching up his eggs.  He shook each one he picked up to see if it rattled with money!! Easter 2017I love these people.  We have taken this picture for three years now and even though I am GENERATIONS older than all of them, they don’t make me feel like it!

Easter 2017

Our Easter celebration was followed up with fishing and kayaking on the pond.  Mal didn’t sign up to haul me around, but when I jumped in her kayak, there wasn’t much she could do about it! 🙂  Jase caught a fish as long as he is tall and the girls ended up swimming in the pond because they both suspiciously “fell” out of their kayaks.

All in all, it was a TERRIFIC Easter weekend!

Forever Farmhouse Update No. 8

forever farmhouse

forever farmhouseWell friends, the end is in sight.  We have locked in an interest rate and have less than 60 days until closing.  (We can close sooner than that, but if we aren’t finished within 60 days there is a pretty substantial fee!)  Now is when things really start coming together.  Instead of a few big projects, there are hundreds of little projects.  But let me catch you up.  In my last update, the tile floors were installed but not grouted, window trim was complete, and we were working on crown molding.

If you follow me on Instagram, you know that interior doors and cabinets have since been delivered.  We had a little issue with kitchen countertops–they were a special order top and our cabinet guy didn’t realize that, so he didn’t order them with that in mind.  When he called to order a few weeks ago, they informed him that it would take 4-6 weeks to get them in.  THANKFULLY, they were delivered three weeks from the order date and are already installed and ready to go! YAY!

forever farmhouse

Baseboard is down in about half of the house.  Painting baseboard is a family affair around here 🙂

ALL our flooring is installed and complete now! YAY!

forever farmhouse

forever farmhouse

Kitchen cabinets are completely installed.  I purchased these yellow barstools (I have four of them) severla months ago, but not I am thinking they look too mustard-y instead of the bright yellow I was hoping for.  I’m considering painting them.  What do you think?forever farmhouse

Our fireplace and built-ins are complete, except for a transitional piece of hardwood to go around the tile on the floor.  Our TV will go above the fireplace, where those wires are hanging out.

The plumber is coming out next week to take care of all the final plumbing tasks:  installing toilets, faucets, sinks, etc.  Garage doors are going in next week and the vinyl on that side of the house will go up as well.  (Yes, we will be living in the garage with actual garage doors until we close on the house.  Fun times!)

I’ve had to add a few things (again) to our running to-do list.  Some of those little things like bathroom mirrors, closet hardware, and the like.  Today starts Justin’s long weekend off and we (myself and kids included!) plan to work our fingers to the bone to get as much finished as possible.  We are starting to feel the finish line stress just a little 😉

Our running to-do list:

We walked out to the creek the other day and I snapped this gorgeous photo of my handsome boy.  Well, except for that funky surgical glove that Kyndall insisted on bringing down for her “science experiments”.  No problem–two clicks and that photo looks better than ever!

Afterlight

favorite app

First, I opened the photo in Afterlight and brightened it.  It’s a super simple process, just open the photo in the app and then use the sliding bar to lighten or darken the photo.  Viola!

Touch/ReTouch

Second, I opened the photo in the Touch/Retouch app.  {I discovered the Touch/ReTouch app a few weeks ago and I am SO IN LOVE.}  Once the photo was open, I clicked on “object removal” and highlighted that ugly glove.  Then, I clicked GO and goodbye glove!

You can get Afterlight HERE and the Touch/ReTouch app HERE.  {I’d be so appreciative if you’d use my affiliate link if you choose to purchase!}   Also, if you choose to purchase, I’d love to see your before and afters!

That’s What She Said, Vol. 3

second birthday

I am surrounded by the funniest people. I love a good sarcastic comment, or wrongly used word, or sometimes even a made-up word. That’s What She Said is a monthly round-up of all the things I’ve heard that have made me giggle.

That’s What She Said:  Libby

The other day, I vetoed an activity Libby was wanting to attend.
Me, jokingly: “Are you mad?”
Libby: “No!”
Me, jokingly: “Have I ruined your childhood?”
Libby, dead serious: “Not yet. There’s still time, though!”

Last summer, Billy had a scary experience while kayaking. He was reminding us about it a few nights ago, and then this happened.
Billy: “I don’t think I’ll ever get in that kayak again.”
Libby: “Why? Because you don’t fit?”

Driving home from Nashville the other day, Libby looked over at a sleeping Jase and said, “Well he bit the bus!”

One day last week, Kyndall was frustrated at Libby for asking a lot of questions.  I told Kyndall that Libby was just making sure she was on the right track.  Libby responded with, “Yea, I fall off the track sometimes!”

That’s What She Said:  Kyndall

We were eating lunch one afternoon and I was explaining to the girls that my first job was as a dessert chef at a local restaurant. Without missing a beat, Kyndall looked up and said, “Did you just lose those skills?”

That’s What (HE) Said:  Jase

I made the kids scrambled eggs for supper.  When I walked over to grab some napkins, Jase put an egg in his spoon, threw the egg toward Kyndall and yelled, “Catch HA!”.  I think we may have been to the Japanese hibachi restaurant one too many times 🙂

PS:  If you are reading this through your email subscription, you will have to click over to the webpage to view the video.  Sorry for the inconvenience ?  Also, please excuse the mess in my house–remember, we are living in a construction zone! 🙂

What I Read: March 2017

what i read march 2017

Happy Friday, friends!! I cannot even believe it is April already.  Summer will be here before we know it 🙂

March was a slow reading month for me.  The girls and I have been snuggled up binge-watching  Heartland on Netflix, so that has taken up a lot of my time.  There have been lots of house-tasks going on. And if I’m being honest, one of my March reads took up a lot of my time, but more on that later 🙂

I learned a little something new about myself this month–I am very decisive about my reading.  I either LOVE it or I HATE it–there is no in-between.  I give books about three chapters to draw me in and if it hasn’t happened  by then, I’ll put it down.  So don’t expect any 3 or 4 star reviews–apparently, I don’t give those out!

What I Read:

Chasing Slow by Erin Loechner.  I’m calling it–this is the best book of 2017.  Do you ever feel like a book was written just for you, in your current season of life?  That’s how I felt about this book.  My soul has been craving slow lately.  This book delivered that and so much more.  It is described on Amazon as “a rest stop for the soul.”  Erin gives permission to stop trying for more and it couldn’t have come at a better time for me!  This book took up a lot of my reading time in March because I just wanted to savor it.   The Stars: 5/5

It Doesn’t Have To Be Perfect To Be Beautiful by Myquillyn Smith.  I have read “The Nester’s” blog for years now and just recently decided to purchase her book.  Myquillyn is the expert at decorating with thrift store or repurposed items and making her home look like a million bucks.  The cover of her book boasts a broken armchair propped up with books and it is stinking beautiful.  With all the house stuff, I loved her suggestion of only decorating my home with items that I love–not just buying items to make it be full.  The Stars:  5/5

The Broken Way by Ann Voskamp.  You guys, I love Ann.  She is sweet and precious and lovely, but I think she is a little “too” precious for me.  I tried really hard to get into 1000 Gifts and I tried really hard to get into The Broken Way and I failed miserably both times.  The Stars: 2/5

Welcome To The Farm by Shaye Elliott.  I have been a fan of The Elliott Homestead blog for a while now.  I love how Shaye shares the day to day of being a full-time homesteader.  I knew as soon as I heard that she was publishing this book that I wanted to get my hands on it.  If you are interested in the ins and outs of farming, you’ll love this book.  It’s entertaining but also chock-full of practical advice for running a farm.  The Stars:  5/5

Between, Georgia by Joshilyn Jackson.  I adored Gods in Alabama by Jackson, but this book just wasn’t for me.  About three chapters in, I decided it wasn’t worth my time to keep slogging through.  The Stars:  2/5

As always, I would LOVE to hear your recommendations.  What have you been reading?  What should I read next?
